FAQs

1. Before your appointment
Please arrive a few minutes early to complete any intake forms, use the restroom, and settle in. This gives us time to review your health history, treatment goals, and any areas of concern before your session begins.

2. Where will my massage or bodywork session take place?
Your session will take place in a calm, comfortable room designed just for relaxation and healing. The massage table is padded and set up with cozy linens to support your comfort. Soft lighting and music create a peaceful atmosphere, so you can fully let go of the outside world and focus on yourself.

3. Should I tip?
Yes, tipping is customary for massage therapy, just like in other service industries. A gratuity of around 20% is common and always appreciated. Tips are a meaningful way to say thank you for the care and work that goes into your session, though never required.

4. Will the practitioner be present when I disrobe?
No. Your privacy is always respected. After we review your treatment plan, I will leave the room so you may undress to your level of comfort and get onto the table. You’ll be instructed to lie between the sheets and cover yourself fully before I return.

5. Must I be completely undressed?
Massage is always for you, not to you. That means you are in control of what you choose to wear during your session. Most massage techniques are performed with the client unclothed, but you should always disrobe to your level of comfort.
After we discuss your treatment plan, I’ll step out of the room to give you privacy while you undress and get settled between the sheets. Bathing suit areas are always covered, and you will remain properly draped throughout the session. Only the area of your body being worked on — such as your back, arms, or legs — will ever be uncovered.

6. What parts of my body will be massaged?
A typical full-body session may include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, and shoulders. If you’d like extra focus on a specific area, just let me know.

7. What will the massage or bodywork feel like?
Because I’m a deep tissue and injury treatment specialist, most sessions go beyond simple relaxation — we’ll focus on the muscles, movement, and problem areas that need real attention. That said, a Swedish-style massage is often the starting point: broad, flowing strokes to calm the nervous system, warm up the tissues, and ease surface tension. From there, I gradually increase pressure and use more targeted techniques to release deeper layers of muscle tension and support healing.
I use light oil or lotion to reduce friction and keep your skin hydrated. Your comfort is always key — if something feels too intense, just let me know and I’ll adjust. Massage works best when your body feels safe and isn’t resisting.

8. What should I do during the massage or bodywork session?
Every body is different, so your only job is to relax and let me know what feels right for you. I use a pressure scale of 1–5:

1 = barely noticeable

3 = “hurts so good” (the therapeutic sweet spot)

5 = “I’m in actual danger”

I aim for a 3 — but that feels different for everyone, so communication is key. During your session, you don’t need to do anything except breathe and relax. If you’d like more or less pressure, another blanket, or any adjustments, just let me know. If you want to talk, we can chat; if you’d rather zone out and head to your happy place, that’s perfectly fine too.

9. How will I feel after the massage or bodywork session?
Most people leave their session feeling deeply relaxed and moving with more ease. After a deep tissue treatment, it’s normal to feel a little like you just had a good workout — you might be slightly sore, but in a very different way than the discomfort that brought you in. Many clients also report feeling lighter, more energized, relaxed, sometimes even a bit lightheaded, and often thirsty as the body resets and rebalances.
The benefits can last for days, with improved energy, awareness, and overall productivity. Drinking water, moving gently, and resting as needed will help your body make the most of the session.

10. What are the benefits of massage and bodywork?
Massage can ease sore, tight muscles and help with aches and pains. It improves blood flow, helps your joints move more easily, and can speed up recovery after injuries. Many people also notice less stress and tension, better posture, lower blood pressure, and deeper, more restful sleep. Massage can boost your energy, sharpen your focus, ease anxiety, and leave you with an overall sense of well-being.

11. Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?
Yes. Your safety always comes first, which is why I’ll ask health questions before your session. It’s important to let me know about any medical conditions, recent procedures, or medications you’re taking. In some cases, I may recommend waiting or getting clearance from your doctor before receiving massage.

Examples of when massage may not be advised include:

  • The first trimester of pregnancy
  • Within 72 hours of an immunization, booster, or Botox/filler treatment
  • When you’re coming down with something or just recovering from an illness
  • If you have a fever, infection, or contagious condition
  • Certain medical conditions under active treatment by your doctor (for example, blood clots, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or recent surgery)

If you’re ever unsure, just ask — we’ll make sure your session is safe and right for you.
